    Dylan has been working with the Division of Drinking Water with their lead testing in schools initiative since the end of 2022. In addition to working with the Lead-Free Learning program, Dylan is also the lead and copper rule manager for the Division of Drinking Water.

    Shelby Cooley is the Water Conservation Manager at the Utah Division of Water Resources. She works with and provides support to local water agencies throughout the state of Utah on Water Conservation Plans, administers statewide efficiency and rebate programs, advises on public information campaigns, and other conservation-related projects and programs. She has worked with the Division of Water Resources since 2019 and previously worked for Central Iron County Water Conservancy District in Cedar City. Shelby is a graduate of Southern Utah University’s Political Science program.

DNR: Bats Shouldn’t Go to School

  • Danielle Finlayson - Wildlife Conservation Biologist
    Wildlife Conservation Biologist Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Southern Region Danielle has been in the wildlife field for over 10 years, but bats are a relatively recent focus of her work. She has quickly fallen in love with these flying mammals and loves to talk about how incredible they are. Her background has been mostly with birds, having worked for Rocky Mountain Power on their avian program, Hill Air Force base in the west desert on the bombing range, and most recently as the Wildlife Conservation Biologist with the state of Utah. Her Master's work studied natural springs in the west desert of Utah, along with Golden Eagles. In her current position she monitors and manages our non-game wildlife in the southern region of Utah, including Utah's bat species.
  • Shawn Pladas - Wildlife Conservation Biologist
    Wildlife Conservation Biologist Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Central Region Shawn has worked with bats for over 7 years in Utah, Wyoming, Texas, and Louisiana. He specialized in studying population dynamics and the movement ecology of migratory and non-migratory bats in a variety of locations. In Texas, where bats are found commonly in human-dominated environments and structures, he worked with state agencies and municipalities to mitigate negative human-bat interactions. Currently, as a Wildlife Conservation Biologist with the state of Utah, he oversees our state's Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCNs) as well as the monitoring and management of all our other protected, terrestrial, non-game wildlife. This includes Utah's 18 recognized bat species, some of which are found commonly in cities and rural areas.
